Is it just me or is AN a bit slow, I keep on having to stop and reload pages, as it seems to stall, taking ages when I press the Submit button, etc...

Tried other sites and no issues??

Running fine here. Is it just today or have you been experiencing this for a while.

The site is hosted on a server in a UK datacentre so maybe there's a bottleneck somewhere in between.

That said, at some point early next year I do want to migrate it to a much faster server. More ££ !!

Last few days, I've done speed checks - fine, but not sure how good a gauge that is, also been surfing on data intensive, lots of menus and info sites with no problem???

Probably one of those PC things, hang on, it may coincide with upgrading to AVG 9.0, as that's when things started to slow down come to think of it, will look into that.

Thanks Simon.

PS, hung up on pressing Submit again, had to stop and reload, then submit again, it can't be that I'm using Firefox?

I use Firefox at home and its fine, almost instant as is IE at work. I did however switch from AVG to Avast as I found AVG to be a complete memory hogger.

Upgrades 🙂 They're the scourge of IT!

That said, I've just upgraded my PCs from Vista to Windows 7 and it's a million times better 😉

Weill it was probably about 18 months ago when I had problems with it so likely it was a release or two earlier so that might not be the issue though it may be worth having a trawl through something like the CNET forums to see if anyone is reporting similar problems.

No... it was interesting as I keep getting odd speed issues with AN but put them down to Vista!

I had a new laptop with Vista a couple of years ago. I had no end of problems with interfacing to WiFi networks on vessels and in hotels, and with problems running various commercial softyware written for older versions ( especially AutoCadd )

after about 3 months I had the opportunity to change it due to a warranty issue, and swapped it for one with Windows XP. The various problems disappeared immediately.

No 1 Son tells me that Vista is the first Windows version not to be be fully retro-compatible, which is probably the source of the problems

Have never had any problems with Vista, it cr@ps all over Ubuntu which I have installed on another computer from a great height.

To go off topic a bit though ICLOK, is Ripley really up North? Its closer to London than it is Scotland, almost a suberb of Birmingham in fact...

Seems to be running fine for me over the last few days.

I've certainly experienced all sorts of speed issues relating to AV software and firewalls / content filtering etc.

I've also experienced some issues with specific sites that are *very* slow to load for a few days and then go back to normal for no reason at all - best guess is that it seems to have been something related to BT.

It's generally taken the form of the browser not loading the CSS file, indicated by the counter at the bottom of the browser stalling, eg 38 of 61 items loaded.

It generally affects a few sites, not just AN, but all with the same symptom.

The only way I can make the site run slowly is when I'm uploading pics, but chucking 20Mb+ through a slow upload connection is guaranteed to mess things up!

Dear RJV anywhere north of Watford gap is up North.... any where below is down South... Wales is Wales, Scotland is Scotland ... the rest is England where we all speak English... that is except in the North East which slipped thru the net.... still theres hope... given continuing coastal erosion !!! 😉 😉

I just wish the southerners, south of Shap, would stop pretending to be Northerners ::)

Well as Redcar is firmly north of Shap that must be aimed at ICLOK!

Shap.... Hmmm don't they have a railway station there... oh sorry... thats right, we closed it as nobody really lived there and everyone just passed thru... 😉

Apparently everyone left from Shap migrated East to Redcar to teach them English... Hopefully Redcar will remain Redcar and not become Ta Ta To TaTa... ;)
