Hello, i am very new to this site. I am really getting into my caving and am hopefully joining a group at the beginning o the new year. Before that though, i have decided to buy some of the kit that i may need. I have baught an FX2 lamp and battery. As i baught it 2nd hand, the battery does not have the red bit that goes over the lamp connector or the butterfly screw. The screw i can get hold of but hopw important is the red plastic flap? Also I have just plugged it in to charge and there is a red LED light on the plug, should this turn on while it's charging or when it's finished? Finally does anyone know of anywhere in London that may sell the parts or is it mainly online? If it does not work i'm not too bothered as it was cheap and I am already saving for a lightweight alternative, but any help or advice you guys have would be fantastic.

Kind regards

Pete

Hi, from what I remember of the FX2 I used to have the red light signified it was charging. I'm not clear what you mean by the red bit that goes over the lamp connector - do you mean the rubber-sealed connector that you secure onto the battery with the wing-nut?

Thanks for that mate. Yeh i'll have a look into that stenlight, i have heard they're pretty amazing. I have baught some ropes etc off that site, however i'm heading to Corris next weekend and i won't be able to get anything sent to me because the post is up the spout, so i need somewhere i can pop into. So would you be able to tell me if the LED light on my charger not turning on when it's charging, is that a bad sign? Thanks for your reply!!!

Hello, yes that's exactly what i mean, as i have seen it in a few pictures. The charger is slightly warm so i'm kind of hoping it's doing it's stuff. I do have a car charger aswell, but i don't want to knacker the car battery. Thanks for your response

From memory you need to charge the battery for twice the time it will run for. e.g. charge for 12 hours for a 6 hour trip etc.

If it's the same battery and charger as my Speleo then the LED stays red even when the battery is fully charged. I think the manual says they don't like "persistent over-charging".

Leave it on charge for 12 hours then see how long it runs for. They're a decent lamp and built to last.

rikj has got it right as my friend has an FX2, if you are looking for a cheap but good light you can fit LED’s in an FX2, takes a bit of time but not that hard to do.

If anyone wants to know any more let me know and I will put up some more info and pictures up.

The light should be on when it's charging, and doesn't go off when it's charged. If the battery's slightly warm, it's working. As mention above, I think 12 hours is about right.

Not sure what you mean about the "flap"... put up a picture if you can, to show what you mean.

If your lamp's lacking the cable plug, how on earth do you connect it to the battery? It should end in a rubber block with two brass connector pins coming out of it which is secured with the wingnut to make a watertight seal -if you've not got this I'd think twice about trusting it for use underground....
