It is indeed, have biked through the Verdon and it is spectacular. Didn't know back then of mines in the region though :(

I'm hoping to get to see a couple of French mines this summer, they're show mines, exploration of abandoned mines is a lot harder in France. See this thread and input from Mike Moore http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=1009  that also mentioned Ste-Marie-aux-Mines as an area that crop's up on this chap's web site.
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Hi! Thanks for your welcome!
The Verdon is very beautiful ::) but there are not any mines.... but there are fossils!!!! 😮

Ste-Marie-aux-Mines it's bigger and older mines city ! (Since the Middle Age !) There are more 1000 mines!!!!!! they are very old and their history is long!!!
The Vosges are very rich in mines : Steinbach, Le thillot, Giromagny, Ste-marie-aux-Mines, ...
😮

Hi there,

I have a question for you... I used to work for Alstom at Le Creusot and occasionally we would go to Montceau-les-Mines in the Bourgogne for a meal. Are there any remains of the coal mines and do you know of any good websites for photos? I never got chance to explore... must go back... the wine was great....

regards

Hi, excellent site  some great old coal mine pictures and fossils on there.... so thanks.

Are you looking for old pictures of specific UK mines?

My favourite thing in Le Creusot was http://ferragus.blog.lemonde.fr/files/2007/10/pa215461.1193238923.JPG  and when i left i was given a bronze model of this.

Just off topic  ..... I virtually lived at the Novotel near the TGV station and used to walk to Montchanin Le Gare for a Cognac at night. At the hotel they had a good chef there who cooked all local Bourgogne stuff.... all washed down with a damn good bottle of Macon Rouge... Oh happy days!!!
