First posting here so please bear with me if I ramble on.

I've been out and about in north-west Leicestershire this morning following my Dad's old route to work from where we lived (SW Leicester) to Palitoy (they made ActionMan!) in Coalville.

Most of the people he employed were miners' wives and we were always at the Miners' Welfare Centre for some event or another.

I went to work with him many a time (mid 1970s) and remember passing at least five pits on the way.

I've found the site of the old Desford colliery and travelled on to Bagworth to try and find that site.

I was on the B585 heading towards Coalville but couldn't really get any idea of where the pit-head + buildings would have been.

I have a rough idea from the where the old cottages are (on the left as I drove through) and presume the mine would have been on the right somewhere esp. as that side also has the railway.

Can anyone help me out at all on where exactly the mine was.

Thanks all.

If you look up the mine in the database under B in the coal section of the mineral type search facility you will see a map if you scroll down.

Click the hybrid tab and you will see the site behind Durham Close off Station Road which nis off the B585.

Looks like they have built some new homes on the site

Welcome to AN by the way

Thanks mate.

I've no idea why I didn't spot that when I was looking at the Bagworth pics etc the first time.

My girlfriend is right in that "if I had half a brain I'd be dangerous"!

I did spot the new houses so I wasn't a million miles away.

I'm really interested and fascinated by this site: can't wait to go on a site exploration one day.

Thanks again.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
