In a attempt to re-open West wheal Peevor it was decided to demolish the top half of the pumping engine house and convert the lower half into the mines office.
A contractor was appointed to carry out this work. In an attempt to save money and to the consternation of the mining company. He threw all the material of this work down the shaft they were attempting to re-open!
