IA Recordings have just released a new compilation DVD -

Mongst More Mines - (DVD) Exploration of Southwestern mines above and below ground

This is a compilation and doesn't have a commentary and is not fully edited or dubbed but sites are identified by captions - running time 2 hours 6 minutes ( also available on NTSC)

The National Association of Mining History Organisations (NAMHO) held its annual conference at Morwellham Quay by the River Tamar. The organisers arranged special visits to many mines in Devon and Cornwall and this compilation features some of them. A group from the Shropshire Mining Club (SCMC) spent the following week exploring more Cornish Mines and many visits are included here.

Sites include: Morwellham Quay; George & Charlotte; guided surface tour of Kelly Mine; including the dressing mill, explore various levels of Great Rock shiny ore mine underground. Blue Hills tin Streaming centre, a stroll around St Agnes, attend a specially arranged visit to Wheal Peevor before it was opened to the public; revisit Taylors Shaft and Mitchells shaft National Trust preserved Cornish Engines in Pool. Examine mines of the Bassett sett, West Bassett and Wheal Bassett stamps and Marriot's shaft.

A look around King Edward dressing Mill, followed by a visit to Wheal Grenville Stamps; a quick look at Brea Tin Streaming Works, South Crofty's New Roskear Shaft, The Red River near Roscroggan and Cornish Gild Centre to see Tolgus Tin Streaming Works, St Eunys churchyard to contemplate miners Gravestones.

A special visit to Camborne School of mines Test Mine, A walk around Botallack, a visit to Geevor tin mine and a special trip down 79 metres of ladders in Victory shaft to Deep Adit level and view the dammed connection to Levant Mine and exit through a long winding level in Trewellard Cliffs.

Wheal Trewas nr Rinsey Cove, Bodmin and the mines around Caradon Hill: South Phoenix, Phoenix United and Wheal Jenkin nr Minions and finally South Caradon Copper Mine

Sounds interesting. I have their previous recording ‘Mongst Mines and Mine Explorers’ which was excellent. I don’t recommend a visit to the Gold Centre to see Tolgus Tin at the moment. I was there the other day and the place is a complete mess.
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

I was with him when he looked around last year it is a real shame that the place had been allowed to fall into the shambles it now is
