An entire housing estate in Redruth may have to be demolished because the properties were built over old mine shafts. The estate was built by the Mod, which decided to move service personnel out following a mining survey this summer.
The estate was built 20 years ago without planning permission, building regulations or a mining survey, because the MOD was exempt from such requirements. Considering the area where it was built not having a mining survey done beggar’s belief.
Reminds of the time a few years ago when a couple from Redruth went out shopping only to return to find their house had disappeared!
😮
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

hmm just shows the arrogance of the MOD, when houses, gardens and the like disappear on a not infrequent basis is kind of a good idea to have a look what your building on, hehe you could say that one backfired on them a tad
