Buckley town center is having yet another revamp and according to the plans they have ore carts to use as new seats....

Anyone know more on this, like where they are from, or fabricated.. I cant see anything from the coals days remaining that they would use.

Ironing 2 miles deep into a system? you obviously dont understand.

I would have thought they would be having something 'ore cart looking' fabricated, if you think about it with all the H&S stuff around now I cant see any council buying or using what would essentially be 2nd hand scrap (if its not for a sculpture!). Or perhaps theres still somewhere in the UK manufacturing wagons, then they could buy new ones and convert them! :lol:

Sounds very much like they are probably wasting a heap of tax payers money on some "artistic interpretation" of some wagons ....

The ‘Streetscape and Access’ scheme is part of the North East Wales Town Centre Regeneration Project and has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

New seating will also be installed to reflect the history of the town.

The “truck seats” were inspired by clay tipping trucks recovered from a pond on the common in 2005 which were renovated by the Buckley Society.

The trucks were in common use in brickworks quarries around the town and are a key part of its history.

Several brick columns also form part of the improvements and will showcase some of the Buckley’s brick making history by including some original bricks from the town.[i]

How very unusual for a local council lol

Knowing Buckley quite well, the only 'ore' would have been clay and coal to fire the bricks and tiles. The miners may have brought a bit of iron stone up but not from my recollection. The only local ore was lead and zinc from Halkyn Mountain about 6 miles west or Minera about 8 miles south east. If it's anything like they're doing in Mold - £600k of our money, grossly over budget and months late, I pity Buckley. Yes, 'something' needs doing there but I'm not sure 'ore carts' are the answer, Buckley needs jobs for the local youth. And its out of MY rates (I have a house in the Mold area as well as the main house on Anglesey...

There are some slate wagon benches at Llechwedd in the queuing are for the mine tour. I'll take a photo on Wednesday. They look great to be fair! :thumbsup:

Done some ferreting around, they're clay wagons that were recovered from one of the pools on Buckley Common near an old brickworks in 2005. Hope they're going to be well tied down knowing Buckley...

Was it definatly one of the commons, or perhaps one of the quarries that have been developed into housing?

Would need to get hold of one of the Buckley Society members to find out which pool they dragged them out of... Could have been a pool at the bottom of one of the clayholes.
