Special Lamp Offer
These are being offered on aditnow and mine-explorer as a preference before putting them on my own website.

I recently purchased a batch of LED caplamps labelled as manufactured by IEE of Spain, however the design is Gokang of South Korea. So either manufactured under license or re branded.

Purchased as faulty, all had the original 18650 Ni MH cells US and probably battery electronics according to my tests, therefore I have fitted all with new 18650 Li Ion cells and my own control electronics.

Some had broken switches as well, these have been stripped and fitted with standard Oldham switch and contacts etc and then fitted with my own WorkStar Pro led module.

The belt mount battery case appears to be of a particularly good design with swivelling belt loops. It now holds 3 parallel cells giving 7500 mAh at a nominal voltage of 3.7 volts. The cells are potted in addition to the watertight integrity of the case.

The headset is quite sturdy; the only criticism is that the cable exit is at the top, rather like the original Raptor. I have tested these lamps for watertight integrity and they are OK, but as additional precaution I have silicone sealed the cable gland.

The condition of these lamps is very good, some quite crisp.

I am offering these lamps with 12 months guarantee.

This is what is on offer:

Model #1

Unchanged headset, plus new Fellows rebuilt battery pack. Burn duration is 36 hours, this is not a typo. Beam is OK, I tested it in a slate mine, it’s very narrow and with a good throw, probably similar to other LED miners lamps.
Charging is possible from any voltage ranging from 5 volts (Standard Oldham charger) up to 8 volts with current regulation built into the headset.
“On charge” is indicated by the pilot flashing. So you can charge from an Oldham charger, or a home made one using an old mobile phone mains adapter or whatever. Observe polarity. I can throw in a set of “through the headset” charging clips buck shee, or make you up a charger for £6

Price £50 plus £3 p and p.

6 in stock

Model #2

As above but headset modified to my WorkStar Pro spec.
2 Cree Q5 XRE LEDs each driven at 700 mA, one has tight spot similar to Fenix TK11 on non turbo mode, the other a wider beam, each working from the alternative switch positions.
Watertight tested.
Burn time about 10 hours.
Charges of standard Oldham charger or other charger that MUST be current controlled to 1000 mA or less and at no more than 6 volts.

I can supply a charger but more expensive than the other because its more involved to manufacture.

It's a good quality lamp this. When I was looking at Chinese mining lamps I imported a few from 3 or 4 different manufacturers and the Gok Ang (or Shanxai Star Coal Mine Safety Company Limited IIRC*) had a nice quality feel to it. Particularly the battery case, and it's slightly curved.

* Raised a few questions with the neighbour who signed for the box...

Good luck with the project Roy :)

Gok Ang also do a little cordless, but it uses a single 18650 across the body which makes it look a bit like herman munster...

I saw a load of caplamps at the Canton Fair and the quality was very good indeed with most. I thought it wasn't a wise punt due to the size of the leisure market....

I've just done a job which involved finding an interesting WW II relic, which I will punt out and if all goes well, I'll sign up for a Fellows Nuclear Flash 🙂

Desperately small

Quality of most is good or above. But there are some shockers. Did you come across anything made by Long Gen?

A lot do use very nasty shiney plastic, but that's mostly aesthetic.

What stuck with me was bumping into what looked like a seriously expensive item and asking "How much per unit?" and "what is your minimum order?" and getting something like a $0.65 and 20,000 as an answer. I didn't go to see torches or rope access gear, but I saw them. The Petzl Stop/Ascend/Handled ascend bits of kit were obviously the same mouldings out of the same machine, but lacking the all important trademarks.....

Mind blowing.

My thought for the day was "no wonder this country is fucked if this stuff costs this much" The whole place smelt of plastic though....

The quality is bang on though and seeing the stuff in the flash made me realise where all the Tesco/M&S/Aldi/anywhere you name goes to source it's stuff.

With the lights, they will also build you a CE marked super duper 10w LED caplamp, waterproof to 200m and a 20ft container will cost not very much.....they want the roundeye's money and they'll go to the nth degree to get it.

I didn't see much evidence of the transfer of wealth either.... I suspect it's rather like Cornwall in the early 19th Cent....

I'd say that Chinese head torches are probably the future. We're probably in a bit of a transition between old and reliable and chinky lego. The quality is improving and at those prices, you'd be a fool not to.
