Event name: Bentyfield Level entrance clearance

Date & time: 06/10/2011 at 10:00

Details: Clearing collapsed entrance arching to facilitate restoration by North Pennines AONB Whitesyke Mine project.

Work involves moving arch stones, clearing soil and small debris.

I presume we are talking about the total collapse 30ft inside with some scaffold pipes/old wood through it?

Richard, We are talking about the first four metres from the river bank - not the current underground section.

A word of explanation about Thursdays/Sundays/Retirement etc!

The site is on or adjacent to a Scheduled ancient monument. EH require that an archaeologist records the work - a watching brief. The available funding would not pay for Sunday working. Therefore - we do the work on a weekday.

Once credibility is established, other possibilities beckon.......
