I shall be about 20 mins late as i have to take my daughter to work. Don't wait as I will follow you up to Fron Boeth.
Last year I went to Lidl for some tea bags and came out with a pair of waders that were on offer. So I will bring them along for their maiden voyage in the mine.

Hope everyone had fun, that was an an excelent trip. It's a shame the non SRT's didn't get to see the bit's we did but I think most people did the first drop but all good practice. Was there anything good to see in 17's adit other than lots of water?

Sorry Mr Hamond, still haven't checked your track out, promise I will.

Oh, I thought the original queswtion was answered.

I was late to this thread as I was allowed out to NW for a week when it started. And in particular wanted to look at this feature.

On my list was the very same thoughts as what started this thread. A year ago, after meeting with some ANs and saying bye bye to them in Coresor Mine (long story) I had made my way to the Pant Mawr tramway (up the exit incline).

I wandered around to Moelwyn and dropped down to the dam (the day was very very hot and sapped my strength). I then looked up and saw what I thought was a tramway.

Fast forward to April and I crossed over above Croesor and picked up the 'tramway' - which was actually a miner's track. Well engineered in places. I did wonder if it was over engineered, but at certain times of the year tired miners would be using it in the dark, and a good track would help prevent accidents.

So yup, its not a tramway but a track. I can post some pictures if anyone is interested?

Surprisingly, I only took two pictures of the track - I have uploaded them on to the album.

Thanks everybody for a great day on Sunday at Fron Boeth :)

And thanks to Steve Turbo and Owain for their efforts digging the adits

In total we bolted 3 separate abseils; 15 to 16 (16 being accessible but hey, it was a through trip!), 16 to an unaccessible section of 17, then 17 down to 18 and out via 18.

Sorry if you chaps that didn't do the SRT trip got bored while we were photographing 17. There was so much to look at (I've added some photos in the Fron Boeth user album now - not had a chance to caption them yet) even though it was only a few hundred yards of level and 3 chambers.

Hope everybody got the chance to see parts of the mine they'd not seen before ๐Ÿ™‚

Indeed avery good day with fantastic weather.
For a small mine Fron Boeth has quite a lot of interesting features.
In the mine at the end of fl 18 there is a chamber that has has been made ready for working showing clearly how it would have been made ready for working.
In another chamber you will see a number of slate blocks made ready to go to the mill for sawing on the 'bwrdd bach'. But just abandoned there perhaps when the mine closed.
The mill has a few interesting features such as the almost intact slate smithy fireplace and interesting to see how the waste from the dressing machines went down a channel into waste wagons at a lower level.
And of course the boiler that worked the steam engine for the mill and compressor.
Five stars to Owain and Steve for clearing the water from the adit enterances.
My waders worked fine on their maiden voyage and not too combersome to wear inside the mine, but you have to be carefull not to cut them on the sharp slate.

Well yes, they will eventually spring a leak or two. I dare not wear them after eating beans, and having a pee is very complicated. The green colour makes me look more of a joskyn than I allready am.
But they came with a 'repair patch' and glue ๐Ÿ˜‰

Pant Mawr sounds good to me - does it involve SRT or just swimming? And Hymac's waders of course....

Guys

Thanks for a good day. Enjoyed the wander around with steve. Wasn't bored waiting at all. I had developed man flu whilst camping on friday then got wet inside my cheap non breathable jacket on the way up through sweating (A decent walk) then wet feet inside 15 so was freezing. took a few photos and then had the drive back to cardiff straight after so decided to head back.

I hope you dont think it was rude, i didn't intend it to be so in any way.

it was good to meet many of you for the first time and a couple of you again.

miles rescued my boots from cwm penmachno so have an excuse to come up for another adventure soon., need to get srt sorted!

again cheers, it was a bloody marvellous weekend (even though ive been off work since!)

I've posted pictures of all the adits / blockages now. Sadly I don't think there will be any swimming, Steve and I have dealt with the other wet adits except 7C which I hope the mark 3 syphon will deal with.

Yes Steve, there is digging to be done, I think Number two might be worth having a go at but don't know how good the air will be in there. Be worth taking some wire up to block the hole it after as it's not fenced.
