Dates have just been announced as ever I will be sponsoring a mining photo competion to the value of £100. I have to say there were not enough entries and the same two mines featured for the second year running. I am hoping some of you out there will come along and enter your quality photos many of which would have been real contenders

Hidden Earth 2009 will be held at Churchill Community School, Churchill, North Somerset. On the edge of the Mendip Hills and close to the M5.

The dates are Friday 25th September 2009 to Sunday 27th September 2009.

These dates are confirmed so put them in your diary and see you there. Oh and I will have a bookstand

Cheerss

Guidelines are simply a underground mining photo showing a particular feature, I guess why box has featured so much.

Ah, here we are:

Quote:

Sponsored by Mike Moore Books, http://www.moorebooks.co.uk  a £100 voucher for mining books for the best colour or monochrome print with a mining or man-made underground theme. (£20 of mining books for runner up). As well as mining in the strictest sense, this includes quarrying and other man-made tunnelling activities.

Summary of the conduct of the competition

The competition will be governed by the same Rules & Guidelines as the standard categories in the BCRA Photo Salon.

Entries are limited to colour or monochrome prints, up to three entries per person. One prize. Entries also eligible for distinction' and 'merit' awards.

These entries will not be judged in the standard photo salon categories unless they are specifically entered on the appropriate form and if this does not cause the allowable number of entries per person to be exceeded.

Use the entry form; check-in at the main photo salon desk; entries will be displayed on the main photo salon boards
Competition to be judged by Mike Moore and two further people, appointed by Mike Moore and the Hidden Earth team

Additional Rules

The pictures must be from an abandoned mine or a former industrial underground site (this includes sewers and drains). In all cases the site must not have been in use at the time the photo was taken; the emphasis of the competition is on historical sites. The location of the photo can be anywhere in the world. The competition will be judged by Mike Moore, aided by two further judges to be announced.

Additional Guidelines

The photograph should provide a simple understanding of a particular site; it can show the unique features, such as stoping, mining methods, mining machinery or equipment, mineralisation or some other particular feature. It should not, however, depict wildlife.
