As those explorers of Yorkshire lead mines know, one of the more interesting features of this mine is the whim chamber, which as far as I am aware is unique in North Yorkshire.
The late Jjohn McNeil told me that some explorers had descended this sump, but he either did not know, or could not remember any details of what was found down there.
I certainly did not have that bottle then( some 25 years ago), and definitely do not have it now to venture down it.
I was wandering if anybody knows what is down there?

A big pile of shale would be my guess if I remember the area around it correctly.

But I don't actually know & nor am I likely to try & change that any time soon!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
