What has just happened to the time of recent posts? Is this a deliberate change? Or has something gone tits up? I hope it was the latter, as personally I preferred it the way it was!

Related to a new idea from Vanoord - more recent topics on the front page - upped to 20 now from 10. Topics were disappearing from the home page too quickly.

However 20 is a lot of topics, and because the dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm/ss date format took up a lot of space and wrapped things onto 2 lines frequently I've changed this to x minutes / x hours ago, it works like this:

If the post was less than 120 minutes ago it says "x minutes ago"

If the post was more than 120 minutes ago it says "x hours ago"

If the post was more than 2 days ago it says "posted dd/mm at hh/mm"

I also think "x minutes ago" is easier to work out at a glance when the most recent discussions were updated rather than the old "posted dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm/ss"??

Anyhow, this only applies to the front page, everywhere else will see the normal date formats as before.

Hopefully people will like it, plus by removing date and poster from 'announcements' which I think is pretty irrelvent for an announcement it means that 20 latest topics are taking up about the same height as the previous 10 were.

I do think "10 minutes ago" is nice and clear.

But I've put up loads of trapping code so that we don't see daft things like "1 minutes ago" "1245 minutes ago" single minutes are handled correctly, anything over 120 minutes goes to hours and anything over 28 hours goes to "dd/mm at hh/mm".

When I glimpsed it, it just said x ago, xx ago. it didn't say hours or minutes and some was in old format. Maybe it was just being done! Seems ok now. Increasing the latest post list is a good idea too. Maybe the Latest Album list and the vote list could do with the same?

On another matter, I don't know if it is me being thick or what. On bottom right of home page there is a "list of top 200 mines", why does it only go as far as G? Unless you have altered it this morning.

Because it dates from when there weren't thousands of mines in the database with content 😉 It'll need looking at again asap to return the top 200 with content properly.

Talking of time. I have been told by several people that H.D. is retiring from Llechwedd next month. I cannot conform this, but if tru I wonder what will hapen next. And would the post be replaced I wonder.

Well, I was told initially that it was towards the end of this month. I have since got it from a more official source who would neither confirm or deny that, but simply said "It is in the imminent future, I am not prepared to say more".

My original source said he would be replaced by one of the existing directors one is a member of the Williams-Ellis family (a direct descendent of J. W. Greaves), whereas the other possibility is another board member who isn't a family member.
