Apedale Heritage Centre
http://www.avlr.org.uk

Found this on Facebook "Its the railway gala this weekend, fingers crossed for some fine weather. This year we plan to have a new attraction running, an EIMCO 12B rocker shovel loader. It's been coaxed back to life with our entire stock of grease and no doubt the liberal application of percussive maintenance".

Brilliant - grease and gaffer tape will get anything going 😉

Think I'll try to make that!

Apedale is just over the hill from me. I worked there as a deputy in the 80's.
It is well worth a visit especially on a gala day.
We were there last year with some treasures but sadly it clashes this year so we won't be there this time.

Last year:-

I last saw one of these in use in about 1996, tunnelling contractors often kept them for temporary use behind tunnelling machines that were not yet fully erected.

for those in the South West there are a couple of Eimcos working down here as well, including this one!

Thats the "Grunting Hippo", used to work one of them as well!, incredible Skid Steer.

No operators platform though, and the one I used had a bit of belting over the controls to "protect the operator"--Ha, Ha.

I used to love that machine, thanks for the memories 🙂

well named exspelio! this ones not as quick as it was, needs a bit of work, well all over really. Trouble is it nearly needs a 750cfm compressor to itself to run!
actually there is an operators platform for that one, was removed while it was parked up for repairs

Yeh, seem to recall it was the only mobile tool in the mine to need a 2" air bagging to feed it!.
I admire the mechanics if they are repairing it in that situation, our service men would insist on getting it to a "clean, dry" workshop 😉

There is only one that I know of still working in the north pennines and that is this one, employed driving tunnel at Rogerley Mine.

same problem here, a smaller compressor would do if it wasnt for the 824, expensive to run..
I dont blame the fitters I wouldnt do any more than running repairs underground either (by choice)! what I meant was the platform was being repaired, not the mucker, unfortunatly there doesnt seem to be the budget at the moment

A French version, with overhead conveyor, where the excavator is a different gauge from the mine-cars.

We now own one at Nenthead. Now what I need is someone to get it working, love it and care for it.....and volunteers?

Never mind the Eimco, I want one of those mechanical rammers in Sinker's pic. I think the one shown is a Benjo. Known as "Jumping Jacks". Superb bit of bloody awkward heavy kit! Today's Wackers are pathetic in comparison (imho). I can remember them in regular use compacting trench fill etc. and have seen them in operation at shows, but never seen one for sale. One day.... one day. 😉

I was with him when I noticed they were missing; he's not sure where they went. I don't think they were scrapped and it's possible they may have gone over to matey near Tricky Dicky's to run on his loco layout around the fields.
