hi I'm looking for as much information as I can get about the copper mines at Richmond and also where the entrance in the photo is

Thanks I've been to the entrance that's in the report but is has a locked steel door fitted I was hoping that someone would know the location of the entrance in the picture

I have previously done the AALA outdoor centre inspection for the locked door mine. I have not seen the other entrance.
There was another access to surface about 100 feet to the right of the locked door but it has collapsed.
How old is the photo?

Is was uploaded by another user in February 2016 I don't think that is is very close to the locked door as I have spent the last 3 nights looking around and I might be clutching at straws but the photo is quite bright so I was assuming that there isn't much tree cover and the colour of the stone is similar to some that I have seen further up the hill on a slightly different topic I was parked in the car park at round Howe and found an entrance under the road does anybody know if this is a portal or just a drainage culvert

This plan shows two adits, one blocked.

Doesn't hint at any higher levels from surface though, not to say they aren't there, its 40 years old.

At a guess, would be straight up the hillside above the other entrances.

I had walked up the hillside and found an area where there was a horizontal line of blue/green staining in the rock I presumed that would be a vein I've been trying to send private messages but they seem to stay in the outbox folder and not the sent folder am I doing something wrong

You're not doing anything wrong, it just means they're not reading them.

PMs sometimes dont work well with anyone who processes a lot of emails, especially if they use Outlook as email client/MS Exchange Server. An email comes through and gets answered directly although it does say on the top "IMPORTANT: DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE BY EMAIL" and consequently original sender does not get the reply.

My avatar is a poor likeness.

Hello.
I posted the original picture, and today was the first alert I'd received about request for info. so apologies for any delay.
The mine entrances are on the 'left bank' of the river. There is the one pictured plus another lower down, almost at the river level, which I didn't explore. If you know the area, take the footpath that follows the river through the grounds of Culloden Tower (from next to Yorke Square car park), heading upstream. You can't miss the entrances.

I have been in the adit on the opposite bank with a steel gate; it was on a geology course, and the key must be available if the right person is asked!

now chris i spoke to the yoredale lads and the only way to get the key and permission was off the national trust regional commitee, they said it was hard to obtain and arrange about 3 years ago.i remember meeting the bloke there and he opened it for us but wouldnt come in,its pretty extensive inside with green walls obviously,as for the other entrance the lads said its between two footpaths and impossible to dig as the path above would collapse plus theres the"if the national trust caught you you would be in for an almighty bollocking" hope this helps mate,we ve been digging out an old coal level (hood rigg) on the buttertubs the last couple of thursday nights, hoping to break through tomorrow night, the only night i cant make it,typical.have you joined an underground/mining group? hows your mum and will?:)

Tell you what though. Those online Moldywarps journals make good reading.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
