It never really crossed my mind before but there was rather a shortage of accessible tin smelters during WW11. For example the last one in Cornwall, at Seleggan, closed in 1931. There were none at all in the United States (no doubt because they have virtually no tin) so they decided to build one at Texas City.http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/TT/dkt1.html 

I've entered Longhorn in DB. I think perhaps that some of the rhetoric should be taken with a pinch of saxo.
