Closed after a "large seismic event", presumably read catastrophic hanging wall collapse somewhere, fortunately workers out safely.

Worked by sub level caving, but the fact they are moving a whole town because of anticipated subsidence means this can't have been that unexpected.

Given this instability and the facts that our two largest Mining companies BHP & RTZ operate their iron mines using opencast operations one wonders about the long term economics of these high grade Swedish deposits.

The Swedes look after their mining and metal production industries, that has been the case for a long time, they are bound to continue to do so even using Chinese money to to do it

One has to consider that we had a world class heamatite iron deposit in West Cumberland, with out put going to,its owner British Steel, yet all these mines are now closed down. Yet BHP and RtZ are major producers of high grade iron ores!
From their vast reserves in Western Australia!
Which is worked open cast concentrated then put in trains then shipped by bulk tanker to China!

Premium price for hi Fe Kiruna magnetite (with natural fluxes included in the mineral makeup). Mine will reopen.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
