I have an image of a marriage certificate dated 1875 for one of my female relations, one Jane Burns. The bridegroom's parents are given as William Nasmyth (CoalMaster) deceased and Margaret Macdowell.
I believe William was born around 1809 and died 1860 at Cranston, Midlothian. His father was Alexander Nasmyth and mother Isabella Kinghorn.
I am interested to know what mining activity William Nasmyth was engaged in?
Look forward to any information.

Hello - Not a great deal in the newspapers of that time... found a couple that may help...

Deaths - At Prestonhall Colliery, on the 13th inst., Mr. William Nasmyth, coal-master there.
Dundee, Perth, and Cupar Advertiser - Friday 2st1 September 1860.

At Croftgary, on the 18th inst., by the Rev. R.J. Craig, of Dalgety, Alexander Nasmyth, colliery manager, Donibristle, son of the late William Nasmyth, coal-master, Prestonhall, to Helen, younger daughter of the late Alexander Kelly, Croftgary.
Fifeshire Advertiser - Saturday 22nd April 1876.

Now looking for details of Preston Hall Colliery and any other mines/mineral workings which he and his family had interests in.
