I am having trouble uploading the other pics. : ) This site is pretty clunky...There is a listing for Ellemford coppermines, and as I lived there I can say that is wrong,(http://www.aditnow.co.uk/profile/?uid=64)

I think the listing refers to this mine,3 mls further downstream.I'm in the process of draining it.
Quite a few people have looked for this, its tricky to find, 3 adits and a beautiful place to visit.Sorry if my pic upset anyone : ))

Looking at the database, the location you've linked to seems to be this one.

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Hoardwell-Copper-Mine/

Is that where the photos want to be ?

Not upset, just confused!

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/static/addmine.aspx  follow the instructions and click the link to start the process of adding the mine

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/map/  if you want to scroll around your area looking for mines

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Conglog-Slate-Mine-User-Album/  (again just an example)

Then on the right hand side click one of the links in the red-bordered box called "Quick Upload Links"

Simples 🙂

Some has added a comment on the Hoardwell entry in May saying

"Hoardwell, a.k.a. Elba Copper Mine"

No thats not Hoardweel its Elba, and Ellemford mine does'nt exist IMHO.
Hoardweel is the farm adjacent to ELBA coppermine.
Here.

Thanks for the help, should make things easier.Ta.

As no-one has visited until you, its likely the database is wrong for this location.

As you say its known as Elba in many other places.
http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/71550/details/elba/

I would suggest we delete "Hoardwell" and recreate it as Elba.
Give me a few moments.

OK, its done. Try adding the photos here.

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Elba-Copper-Mine-User-Album/

If no-one else is active in your area and uploading photos, its highly likely there will be other mistakes and missing mines.

The database is only as good as the people who can contribute to it. 🙂

It would be good to clarify Ellemford, is Colonel Mustard still about, he listed it, it would save me from searching anymore! Also one of the flooded parts of Elba conceals a 5m drop, underwater, previously accessed by ladder.......Just menntioning in case anyone goes in...: )
people go here and can't find them, its not obvious, and you could be staring right at it.I hope to get enough ore to smelt some copper.
The Broch on the hill above derived its wealth from here. Its a really beautiful place.

Regarding Ellemford.
Theres a link here on that same site that mentions its exact location :-
http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/71562/details/ellemford/

That in turn quotes the "Grampian Speleological Group" saying they located a level in 2008.

No photos, so perhaps thats your next trip out then ?
😉

I've also found this BGS report that mentions both sites.
www.bgs.ac.uk/downloads/start.cfm?id=1893
Has a plan of Elba on page 38 on the screen (or 48 on the file)

They call it "Hoardweel", mines end up being known by various titles over the centuries, so it not surprising there are numerous variations

Hi I belive colonel mustard my have used ' a gazetteer to the metal mines of scotland' I used 'memoirs of the geological survey' vol XVII the lead, zinc, copper and nickel ores of scotland as one of my main research tools, and visited hoardswell in the 1980's finding the 3 levels. On page 132 of the memoirs G V Wilson the auther sayes 'Hoardwell.....oppsite to Elba'. Both Hoardwell and Ellemford show up on the 1st series 6in to 1mile as cooper mines and are listed seperatly by G V Wilson. Ellemford shows up on 'Robbers Cleugh' Hope this is of some help. JeremyL

PS I will put a double entry into the gazetteer to reduce any confusion in future JeremyL

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
