I just remembered what a wonderful area Saundersfoot was for its mining and railway history in the little mentioned Daucleddau coalfield (Pembrokeshire). So I have linked the railway to the mines it served as its well worth a visit and never seems to get mentioned much. A classic route. 🙂

Very interesting railway. I thoroughly recommend the Oakwood Press book 'The Saundersfoot Railway' by MRC Price.

Hi long time no speak. I have that one but the book I'm after is a hardback book from the 70's on the area. The name escapes me ... but it dealt with the industry in the area in detail.
Hope you are well and nice to hear from you.

There are three books by Martin Connop-Price which cover the industry associated with the coalmining in the Saundersfoot district. The first is an Oakwood Press No 28, The saundersfoot Railway ISBN0-85361-382-6 which I think is still on some bookstore shelves. The second is Industrial Saundersfoot ISBN 0-85088-866-2 which is out of print but can be found in online second hand bookshops. The other is Pembrokeshire, The forgotten Coalfield which is still in print Landmark Publishing ISBN 1-84306-127-9.
Roscoe Howells book Old Saundersfoot has some good photos in (supplied by my collection) newly reprinted by Gomer Press ISBN 1-84323-240-5.
The Story of Begelly by W.R.Morgan ISBN 0-85088-703-8 well out of print but nice photos and mining information.

Thanks for the detail re the books..... I loved my trip there... so much history in a small area.
I got the history one and will get the others in due course.... ta much.
EDIT... any chance you could load your pics into the Bonvilles Court user album and any other pics of pits on the rout would be great. They are all called up by name in the Data base. :flowers:

Thats ok, I am new to this so not sure where photos should go etc. I have hundreds of old photos and photos I have taken of the mining sites in the Saundersfoot Area. There are many mines here that are not listed in the main mines list so will try and add them with photos when I have worked that out.
