Scuba divers have used a giant inflatable balloon to raise a wagon once used to transport Welsh slate more than 110 years ago from the bottom of a lake in Snowdonia.

Members of Rhosneigr Sub-Aqua Club, Anglesey, were diving at Llyn Padarn, in Llanberis, when the wagon was found.

It had been used to transport slate from the nearby Dinorwic Quarry to Dinorwic seaport at Y Felinheli.

Without proper conservation the wood, then the metal will dry and crumble away very quickly.

Totally against NAMHO guidelines as well.

I doubt very much that the wagon was used for finished slate. It looks as if it was a hand-pushed wagon. It would be interesting to know exactly where they found it.

The photo of the wheel under water shows it to be lying on slate blocks, I assume is this is a slate rubbish tip.

I doubt many people outside of the mine exploring community are aware of NAMHO guidelines... why would they be?
