More work is being carried out on the Pearl Shaft. After the miraculous rebuilding of the engine house stack last year, scaffolding has now gone up around the engine house itself.

It's an icon on the skyline as you drive between Penysarn (where I live) and Amlwch. Brilliant that it's being conserved. 😉

Was up there Sunday.

Disappointed that the scaffolding meant no photo, but if the job they do is as good as the rebuilt chimney, it'll be a spectacular sight when finished.

Bit more info on the Pearl Engine House...

There is a currently a ROOF going back on for what, the first time in 100 years? All good stuff.

I'll do some ferreting around via PUG to get the whole story.

Watch this space.

One of the engine house walls is listing, and reroofing is apparently the cheapest way of stabilising it.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
