visited over the weekend of 21st / 22nd JUNE 2014

1 - scaleburn - the " oil drum crawl " is collapsing 😞 the second section has buckled and wobbles under the weight of rubble above it - so we didn't try to get through

is there a byepass through the flats above ???

2 - smallcleugh - new rope and hangers in prouds sump - congrats to whoever fitted them - we signed the visitors book on the changeover ledge too 🙂

That oil drum has been on its way out for years. Maybe now finally giving up the ghost.

Noticed the rigging on Proud's Sump a few months back. Good job on that.

Its been like that forever really. & too tight. Assume the Lawson's & Co weren't eating enough pies when they dug it!

& no bypass.

Yep, that second drum has been knackered as long as i've been going.

Even for the slim who could still get through, I believe it's even more awkward going uphill to get back out.
(never been through due to fondness for beer and pie)

A few of us talked about putting a new pipe in the other year, but would need to measure the size of the gap in the proceeding dig first and haven't been getting up to Nent much this year.

About Scaleburn - the ventilation was never perfect beyond the oil drum and there are some decidedly dodgy sections of roof. Take care!

The second oil drum was fitted after after I was trapped in there and could not get to the first drum we had fitted.
I cut a section out of a second drum, to fit inside the first one but when we arrived on site the second drumm was the same size as first! The only way to make it function was not to fasten up the second drum.
Hence it was inherently weak. The falls beyond this one are not as bad! (at least we tried to make them so).
Ventilation was a problem, although with Minco's drilling they might have changed this.
There is no way to bypass this oildrums, which is directly under the burn, hence the water!
