2000 Years of Lead Mining on Halkyn Mountain animation.🅱

Published on Aug 24, 2015

A simple animated film representing how lead mining developed on Halkyn Mountain from when the Romans first mined using hand tools to the highly mechanised 20th century mining.

Cracking job! Home turf for me and yet I've still to go down...

Used to ride my bike around Halkyn studying all the open shafts when I was in my teens before they capped them all. Wetted my interest in mining history. In the 70's used to drive past Olwen Goch on the way to work every morning and see the wheels spinning on the headgear as the miners went down. Got shown around the mill (still got some juicy samples of argentiferrous galena) but not down the shaft.

Bucket list job...

Very good animation.

I'm allways amazed when historians refer to the Romans doing this or the Romans doing that. As far as I figure, the Romans introduced? The indigenous people would have then been "persuaded" to "do".

I liked the photos. Especially the group by the compressor... With the lad leaning on the flywheel. Try posing for that when it was running 😮

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
