Seeing those pictures taken at Diffwys Slate Mine, looks a very interesting mine, both surface & underground. Also, fun with water element! I am certainly interested in organising a visit.
Best place to park and route to mine?

Be carefull- there are plans to un-top and develop the mine...

From Blaenau (Bethania), drive up Manod Road to the very top. Then take the footpath to the North East which takes you to Diffws.

A much shorter route would be via the road from Bethania. However, to echo what Dylan said, work has already started on reopening the chambers by untopping them.

Thanks guys for information. Visited Blaenau last month, exploring Rhosydd & Croesor Slate mines and unlikely to be in area again until next year, so probably too late.:(

As I understand it, they are going to work downwards from the pit untopping as they go to recover the slate from the pillars.

That's Bowydd/Votty isn't it? Diffwys is high up on the hill? Or are both getting untopped?

Yes, they are working much higher. Above and behind Maen Offeren in fact.

I thought they had stopped untopping Votty some time ago. Have they restarted that as well?

Plan is now Diffwys, then across to MO-all of it goes. Or at least, until what happened at Oakley and Votty/Bowydd inevitably happens again
