It's already home to the world's longest zip-wire, now Blaenau Ffestiniog boasts what is believed to be the world's largest underground trampoline in the abandoned Llechwedd slate quarry.

Zip world in Penryn has the longest single line.
Zip world in Llechwydd has the longest ziplines when their combined lengh is added together.

Or that is how I read it.

Some may recall the discussion about the scrapping of the (incorrectly titled) "Robey Winder" at Llechwedd some years ago in order to work away the rock beneath. Very little of the rock was actually removed, and the "bounce Below" chambers - ex "The Cathedral" chamber off the Miner's Tramway - are almost vertically beneath its old site - though a good depth below, it has to be said. The winder was on floor 5, and I estimate the roof of the chamber(s) to be about Floor 3 or so. The original applications for the underground rope course in the same area give a good idea of the cross sections.

I agree with Roy, the roof attachments would be most interesting.

until there is a small fall of rock, and then there will be tears before bed time I fear. slate mining under ground is by its nature dangerous, but accepted when you scribe your name on the dotted line, I know I`ve done that, mine exploration is risky but ok if you know the score but going under ground to play?....it aint a good place to send your kids to play

Most fun place on Earth?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-28154790

Is underground trampoline the most fun place on earth?
3 July 2014 Last updated at 19:47 BST
It has been called the most fun place on earth by celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton.
But is what is thought to be the world's first underground trampoline at a former slate mine in Blaenau Ffestiniog worth jumping up and down about?

With this being a first I wonder if a full structural geological analysis of the stresses being imposed on the chamber walls by this installation has been carried out and who has signed off the whole chamber/installation as safe for continuous use by joe public? Your day out would end rather abruptly if a boulder the size of a car decides to join in the fun!! 😮

I fancy a go on this, just looking on their web site all dates for this month , except today are free, surprised at that, I thought it may be booked up for a bit, no mention their opening hours though for some reason.

I reckon you have to give these things a go.

The management thanks you for your co operation.

Many members of our club (TSG) expressed an interest in a Croesor trip, followed by an afternoon in there. Personally, I think it's a good use of an empty space, as long as it's safe.

On a similar level, I went into an old bauxite mine in Les Baux-de-Provence a few years ago, which has been converted into an 'audio-visual presentation' venue, utilising slide and overhead projectors to plaster the walls with images - our presentation was about Impressionist painters, and was very impressive, as the walls of the stopes were totally flat, making the projections of very high quality. Here's the site:

I think it's great. That chamber will be one of the best maintained and looked-after chambers in the entire country and will be enjoyed by far more people than even the busiest part of somewhere like Cwmorthin. We can't be selfish and demand that all underground spaces are left as-is just for our benefit 🙂

What he said.

Also anything that helps bring full time employment to an area such as this can only be good.

Even if it fails as an enterprise (I hope it does not) then full marks for coming up with something innovative and having a go.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
