You can add Floor B to that at the moment! Last week it was flooded to above the roof of the tunnels! As a result the Deep Mine tour is closed until further notice. The water had started to go down a couple of feet on Friday, but there has been more rain since.

Note:- I did mean Floor B not Floor 2 :stupid:

No, that have three pumps going full power, one did fail but they have brought in larger ones. Although Floor B has flooded a bit before they have never known it as bad as this.

I was at Llechwedd yesterday afternoon.

I was already aware that an "electrics" upgrade was planned for the Deep Mine tour. One positive result of the recent flooding is that this upgrade (including fitting LEDs throughout) will be brought forward and be done imminently. So some definite good has come out of this.

The water level is now back down to Floor B floor level (so it can now be on Graham's list as dewatered again lol).

The incline man rider will be tested next (especially all the safety sensors and switches on Floor 😎. Then other safety tests before it can re-open hopefully very soon after Christmas. Having said that, a wedding is going ahead in the latter part of December (by candle light of course, as is usual).

As was said to me yesterday "We will not be beaten by one pump failure and 100mm of rain in 24 hours, you just watch us!".

A question you might be able to answer, John.

Why don't they pump out more? I'm guessing its why bother.
But just curious if there was another reason. Seems like pumping out a few more floors could be easily achieved? It'd be nice to know if there is much more further down.

Put simply, they no longer mine (as compared with quarry) so there is no need for them to pump out further levels. The Deep Mine tour is the only reason they pump that out, otherwise that would be allowed to flood as well I would imagine.

Pumping below Floor B stopped on 11th October 1972. What I am not sure of is whether any floors below C had been allowed to flood prior to that date.

Just a quick update on the Deep Mine Tour.

The new completely revamped Deep Mine Tour will open to the public on 23rd March. There are a couple of articles including two amazing videos on the Daily Post website:-

This one shows the work under way:-

"Revamped" would seem to be an understatement!

Great news!

(Mind you, whoever measured those double decker buses needs to learn the difference between feet and metres. ;))

One of my mates from school, back in the 18th Century:

has been behind this over the last 9 months, so it should be really top quality stuff. If only I had the time to go and check it out..... 😞
