Europe's only four-person zip line - which will see thrillseekers fly down three wires over a total distance of five miles - opens to the public tomorrow in Snowdonia.
Zip World Titan gives visitors the chance to "fly" in unison at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.
The new adrenaline-inducing zip line at Llechwedd Slate Caverns near the historic mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog has made action-packed Snowdonia the international zip line capital of the world.

Adjacent to the bottom of the last set of zip wires there is a new establishment. It is fitted out inside with tasteful tiles on the floor and walls. Contained therein are several unisex cubicles, each contains the usual convenience plus an automatic motion sensor bidet. Not only this but suitably positioned and angled hot air blowers are provided for extra hygiene.

Having seen it (well the lowest one) in operation (testing) the other day I can tell you there is a kind of sprung capture device that retards the connection on to the actual zip wire. I have to say, the rate of deceleration was quite marked.

I could just about manage the last 5 metres. What sort of pulleys are they? They look quite flimsy to me and I'm not sure how they rate them for a 100mph trip with a 13 stone man hanging on for dear life.

When you arrive at the bottom and you have decelerated somewhat, instead of a shop is there going to be a laundrette ?

you can imagine the selfies being taken as you descend, just like that boy scout on the rollercoster (for those who are old enough to remember it).

:offtopic:When no one wants to go down it, they could rent it out as the biggest washing line in district.

Given the prices I have seen for the previous single lines, this is strictly in Tourist territory.

Could be the answer to all Crofty's problems - I'm sure you could rig something up from the NCK headframe.

Or the second biggest white elephant in Blaenau.>:(

It shouldn't be there in the first place in my opinion. Or to be more precise, it shouldn't be there in the form it is, run as it is, considering what has been lost and all the bad feeling that has gone with it.....:(

The Grumpy Old Man has now left the building.....:glare:

There are two of these attached to each wire

http://www.powerfan.co.uk/

You hit a braking trolley which pulls a length of dyneema off the Powerfan. If you have a look at the pictures on the website, you can see a cone shaped bit. The dyneema is pulled off that as you hit the braking trolley, and because of the shape of it the braking power gradually increases depending on how fast you're going

Their claim to be the only four person zip line in Europe seems a little dodgy. There was already a quad one in Switzerland when I was there 2 years ago ?

This new line is also slower that their other one one around the corner at Penryn. They claimed we did 100 mph on that one.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
