Unless a startling discovery is made tomorrow night it will be SRT back up the shaft.

Chris, I'm in a similar situation - not much abseiling experience and prussik practice limited to a tree in my garden. I'll be taking my kit along, but will decide on the night how adventurous I'm feeling.

Hi. It's an SRT in and out I'm afraid. The "shaft" is more of a roofing shaft following (roughly) the lode rather than a free hang, so its an easy ab in, and also an easy prussik out.... however it is a good 50m so it's a tough call to say if it's the best place to try it out for the first time. How confident/competent are you with abseiling or climbing generally? There are other bits of the mine to see that don't require SRT but it's a bit spread out over different levels so not ideal to go wandering off alone....come along and see how it goes?

I'm a pretty experienced climber, SPA trained and well used to rigging abseils and abseiling I've just never gone back up the rope. It sounds like this may not be the best mine to do it for the first time though so I may just come along another time.

I can't remember if you came along on the other trips to Moelwyn zinc mine? There are some non-SRT walk-in adits to take a look at as well (nothing particularly extensive - but OK for an evening wander).
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

No I've never been to this one before. Actually I think I will treat it as a gentle walk and bring a camera instead of SRT kit. My other half's flying to Africa on Friday and would never forgive me if I got into a fix and messed things up for her!

Meet up in the car park by the cafe at Tanygrisiau, near the entrance to the power station, at 1815 ready to head off at 1830?

Is that also where we leave the cars?
If I'm early, I might start up the hill in a leisurely fashion.

Yes mate, park up and leave the cars there. If you set off first, ring me before you go as there are a few ways to get there, on opposite sides of the hill.
Bring your SRT kit mate it will be fine, it's a simple pitch, worst thing that can happen is that you get wet knees from water trickling down the stope

Should I worry that I'm more bothered by the drizzle this evening that the 10,000 tons of shite.
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Nice evening and got my 1st SRT done as well. Great to meet everyone. Thanks again to everyone that supplied kit and expertise so that I could do it. 😉 Can't wait to see the pics.
