This Thursday night trip is to Moelwyn Zinc Mine if anyone fancies it?
I'm definitely available this week as I have a half day off booked ( 😉 ), Simonrl is also free, so over to y'all.....
Llion (always reliable), Corin are you in the area? Skimble, how are the knees bearing up? Carlin? Anyone else? All welcome
Best place to meet is, I guess, the car park at Tanygrisiau unless anyone knows an easier way? I'm aiming for 1730 ish but let me know if anyone needs it to be a little later due to work etc?
It should be mostly dry I think, not sure if there are any SRT opportunities but I'm bringing my kit just in case
See you there on Thursday I hope :flowers:

That's 'cos Sinker is in charge

Cmdr Rockchick of the Eastern Division has been quiet. Rumour reached me that she was suffering from some sort of Jungle Fever 😮

I think your batteries were flat weren't they? Although the dimming feature seemed a bit iffy - but nothing a clean with a squirt of industrial cleaner wouldn't fix I think

Sorry, but I won't be there. 17:30 is way too early for me. 😮 The knee is improving but still complains from time to time. :curse:

A cold, wet hike up to Moelwyn tomorrow night would cure that!

There is a tramway (which is horizontal) above an entrance on the moutainside which leads to another entrance (at the right hand side of the tramway) with yet another entrance nearby.

This latter entrance is nothing more than a "grotto" but it has a shaft which descends an unknown depth (but I could not see the bottom). It has a SINGLE hanger bolted.

Water is flowing into this shaft (slowly) but it has never sumped indicating it is coming out elsewhere - I have searched for this without success.

It would be very interesting to know if that shaft leads to the lower workings which are now inaccessible due to the main entrance being collapsed.

(and, of course, just how much there is down there to see)

😉

😉 Are you free tonight??! You could claim some "new ground"! After pointing us in the right direction of course....
What's the easiest way to actually get there? Follow the Public Footpath behind the power station?

Thanks :flowers:

I am in away "up north" tonight (sorry 😞 ) and I can't make it.

However, it won't be new ground as there is a hanger attached (but only one) so I would have to guess at least one person has been down. I cannot find any reports on the lower workings and there is no apparent way to know what is down there except that water can escape below. I expect it is at least 150feet down and possibly more.

The easiest way IS to follow the footpath and then head upwards to the obvious spoilheaps. When you see the tramway - follow it right. The adit at the end is not the one you want (actually it might be but I seem to remember you have to walk further right)

Good luck in finding it and happy exploring 😉

Best guess .... 150ft+ (based on dropping a stone or two (and shouting "below" like a foghorn)).

I can't be held responsible for inaccuracies - I don't know anything about maths, calculations, sums or anything to do with numbers ::)
