4.20pm Channel 4.Sunday,3 feb,how to make a program with limited material and poor weather in 3 days worth a look,may be surprised at what they find ,or not 🙂

Have been waiting for this one to air.
Wonder who they have got for an expert on this one!

I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

will never get Time Team past the domestic authorities, not enough people rushing in and out yelling at each other. Not enough homosexuals, or that vet with a shaved head who looks like a pig as a result... ho hum, I'm sure it will be repeated endlessly during the week.

Clashes with the rugby, anyway

Mmmmm; well yes.
Did I fall asleep during part of it? or did I expect them to find more in 3 days digging? (well a lot of that time was spent getting to and from the site). So to sum it up the Germans came to mine there in the 1500s and most of the evidence was buried or removed by the Victorian miners. Conclusion: You are gonna need more than 3 days.

Although it now looks like I'm gonna have to get out to Coniston and have a look around

I watched it, it were awright.

CATMHS did indeed assist :thumbup: a shame they didn't appear to get a mention 😞

We stayed in Coppermines valley a couple of years ago and had a bit of a poke around, need to go back really....

type in "time team unclyclopedia" on google, hilarious article.
Though they are a good lot I think, and the coppermines valley is a beautiful and unique place. Slate, copper mines everywhere

So we learned that later mining activity disturbed earlier activity... anyone of us could of told them that.

Overall an alright episode but really felt like a waste of their time as well as ours unless you count the nice scenery on screen.

Like so many ''scientific'' or archaeological programs they advertise it making you think that they've found something. Of course then you realise that nothing conclusive has been found, just more questions. Thats life I guess

Be thankful they binned off Upleatham in favour of there then !

The CATMHS newsletter mentioned it was the final series of Time Team, which does seen to be true.

I was there.

CATMHS were mentioned in the credits.

The weather was shite. Getting to the site was hard - not helped by the fact that they all insisted on returning to the bottom for lunch!!

Number of artefacts found was practically zero.

And I am glad that it was all so obvious to everybody what the outcome was going to be........

Always going to be awkward to excavate and find anything up there!!
Was that part of a copper cobbing floor they dug up in the red dell, certainly didn't look like anything to do with stamps, unless it was to break up ore to feed stamps. If it was a cobbing floor, why dig it up!! It is a good artifact by itself!!

I was interested that there seemed to be no representatives from the archaeological groups that have excavated historical mining sites in the UK and abroad.

I can think of many people who have specialist "hands on" experience of these kind of sites that could have been involved.

Were thay not asked???
or would they not participate???? :smartass:

I wondered about that. Surely if it was such a bad drive and there was a risk of damaging the water pipe under the road, they should have stopped up there all day. It wouldn't have been too difficult to rig up a marquee or something for lunch.

Yes, it was in Red Dell. Near the portal of Cobblers Level. I think the idea of lifting part of it was to try and date it.

You have never seen such a luxurious catering setup for a 'field' meet. We joined in with the food!, it was great! But there was no way it could have been erected at Levers Water without helicopter support, and I mean heavy lifting choppers, not those little ones they use for filming.

I guess the likes of Tony Robinson have certain expectations, so that gets reflected down to everybody else.

I remember Cobblers level very well, on a PDMHS trip looking for evidence of fire setting and Elizabethan Mining, we walked all the way up the Red Dell in a misty cold November. Foolishly a number of us decided to explore Cobblers level at the beginning of our walk, the water was up to waist level! We decided to carry on with the walk without changing, I forget how many times I drained my wellies on the walk, a number of us had the same problem, we all survived and warmed up at the Youth Hostel after the walk!
Anyway I hope they made a good job of replacing those cobbles!!! Survivals like that should be well preserved.

I didn't manage to see it all as I was getting ready for work. As far as I could see, after three days the only thing they managed to find was a German oompah band!
