Really enjoying seeing your aerial photos of various mine sites Willy Eckerslyke

Do you use KAP (as Toadstone on here does) to get these fantastic views or are you a pilot?

Thanks Simon!
A friend was the pilot on a project we did photographing the AONBs (Anglesey, Llyn, Clwydian Range, Gower). I just stuck my camera out of the open window and tried to delay throwing up (not always successfully).
http://www.pixaerial.co.uk  though at a low resolution and largely unadjusted. I would like to find time to go through them properly, and turn the website into something a bit snazzier, but there are over 20,000 images and I have a full time job already. It's fun looking for specific sites though, like these.

KAP? I did once build a setup for coursework, obtained a couple of photos and got my qualification, but it was dangerously unstable and not something I want to repeat!

A colleague is currently building a Hexacopter, which has far more potential.

Thanks for the explanation :)

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Magpie-Lead-Mine-User-Album/?pid=3  (last three photos on the page) but doing it from an aeroplane sounds easier!

I've got a friend who is a microlight pilot who has offered me a flight some time - he asked me where I wanted to fly, so it'll be over Dinorwic slate quarries 😉

Toadstone's photos there are excellent!
I admit I didn't choose the best rig for my KAP trial, going for lifting capacity rather than controllability. It was so strong I had to fix the winch to a car, but was prone to suddenly falling out of the sky with no warning. Live and learn!

A microlight flight sounds wonderful. Pick a calm day for Dinorwic - and one when the RAF aren't flying. If you can do the circle right round to Nant Ffrancon, that's spectacular - the bend at Idwal Cottage looks a lot narrower from the air - then you can go over Penrhyn Quarry too!

I haven't managed a flight over Dinorwic slate quarries (yet) - here's the nearest I've got to it (Gallt y Llan slate quarry, Nant Peris).

None - they are all in full working order.

(It was a LLMRT/NWCRO training flight - and I got to leave the aircraft before it landed 🙂 )

I assumed that was what it was. I bet being winched down was "different"! You wouldn't even get me up in a helicopter, let alone be dangled on the end of a rope!!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
