Thanks for that link. As you say, some really good photos on there. Pity it doesn't say where they are though.

Three of the photos are back to front though.

Lovely photos.

Is the second one above Penrhyn? It is a shame what has been lost there. Especially with that big new mess og spoil that has covered the the galleries.
Been injured while at work and are not to blame?

Get over it.

Yes, that is Penrhyn, and yes, I agree about the loss. A wooden blondin tower, a steel blondin tower, a large stack of round rails, to name just a few off the top of my head.

Some fantastic pictures there. The ones that get me are with the blokes hanging off Ladders and ropes... and to think I'm shaky with full SRT kit on.

You can say either 'especially as' or 'they could so it because' (take your pick) the only time these guys really got to see the chambers they worked in was in these photos; after the photographer let off a load of magnesium. The rest of the time they jut saw a few feet around them by candlelight.

Enjoyed looking at this archive photo collection. I have been searching for old photos of what life was like in the Welsh slate quarries for a while now, but with only limited success.
They provide a human dimension to my recent underground trips into slate mines such as Cwmorthin, where I had to keep reminding myself that this amazing underground world was the result of human industry! Great to see the bridges and inclines in use, and the ladders of extraordinary length which were used, I believe, to examine the roof. The pictures of the individuals who worked in this environment, however, are what stick in my mind most.
There must be many more photos like this somewhere! 🙂

Brilliant, good to see some photos of people I used to know in the 1970's.

Some interesting relatively modern shots. Little new in the monochrome archive stuff though. A significant number as JohnCaernarfon says have been reproduced reversed - and also cropped significantly in some cases. The "glass negative" surround is not original and appears to have been added for display purposes.

A Curious mixture.

Shame no-one (that I know of) took any photos inside the winding engine sheds etc. in the days before they were disused. They could tell us a lot!

Cheers everyone!
