Has anyone any photographs of the Croesor-Rhosydd traverse looking the other way i.e. towards the chambers instead of the bridges? I appreciate this may not have been the first thing on ones mind as one crosses the bridges!
According to Moses Kellow, chamber A10E (for example) was "fully opened to the ventilation level" (about 50ft above D Upper) but was "stopped because of cylymau."

Now "cylymau" translates as "knots" but it's not in Termau'r Chwarel - so I'm at a loss. Anyone able to tell what sort of poor slate rock would be called cylymau? It seems to be a distinctive band or layer throughout Croesor.

Cheers

Some evidence of deterioration :(

I'd be surprised if there are any photos looking the other way, but I'd be happy to get a couple next time I'm in there - it may be a long list, not least that I want to see the contents of Chamber 3 West, which may take a bit of getting to...

3 West????? Ooooh wet! Middling deep water (only one floor - say 45ft), 2 West and 1 West are 90ft, but you should be able to gain access to the trial levels west of A3W floor - totally inaccesible when we were surveying, apart from up a VERY dodgy looking ladder, you can see it in one of my shots.

Any pictures looking South in A1W A2W A3W would be great - looking N would be looking at the roof - depends how far south you want to paddle I suppose to get a good view... 🙂 :flowers:

Indeed - the trick is going to be to avoid drowning self + camera in getting across the chambers. It may require a bit more thought when it comes to choice of watercraft!

The last expedition across there floundered (literally) when the dinghy was pierced by the wall. Something a little more solid is called for...

Are the maps for the trial levels correct, ie do they show the full extent? The trial level should at least provide the means of photographing the side of Chamber 3 West - long exposures are probably not possible from a dinghy!

Mmmmh ladder...... 😉

Hmmm....

I suspect the ladder is mostly underwater:

That pic was taken on Floor B (down), which is now under 45' of water. The top of the ladder may still be there though!

Presumably this ladder provided the only means of access to the trial level?

In the albums, I think we have:

Chamber 1 West, looking back towards the incline

What might be Chamber 3 West?

... or might not - this doesn't seem watery enough for my, er, liking!
