Hello All

I have decided it time to change my main light at the moment i use a Petzl duo i now think it is about time for some thing a bit brighter but i would like the same sort of set up with the lamp and power pack attached to the helmet, I would also like to have the ability to switch between a beam and a wide angle light if there is such a thing could any one make any recomendations

Cheers

Depends on your budget Ben. If you can afford it I'd reccommend the Sten S7 for around 200 quid. I've got one somewhere, very solid little light if you like the battery head mounted.

Going cheaper you've got all the Nova range. These are good quality and good output, cheaper than the Sten but IMHO not as well made.

If you've less budget consider the Baby Raptor. For the sake of transparency, It's me that sells and imports these: http://www.caving-gear.co.uk/show_product.asp?id=784

55 quid with charger and built in battery, pilot and full beam modes. Gas proof.

There are quite a few el-cheapo headlamps about with Cree LEDs in which can be had for 20 odd quid. These are usually pretty punchy and a lot better than a Duo but I'd always reccommend something built for purpose.

The Sten is probably the best entirely head-mounted setup on the market. About 200 quid I think they are.

Hi Ben, here is a http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/StenLight-S7/StenLight-S7-Lamp/c-1-69-70/  to the Stenlight - probably the best lamp on the market.

Yep the sten is great. I am saving for a sten as well.
Its worth knowing that the stock sten is undergoing some changes at the moment. Simon can tell you more but they are getting better LED's (brighter and better colour rendition) as soon as stock is available though when this is no one seems too sure.

Or the Oldham DL16 http://www.excellentstuff.co.uk/Oldham-Lamps/c-1-89/  :)

Can't make up my mind between the Oldham or the Sten - I want something reliable after coming out for two hours underground after a "leisure" light died... ::)

It was half past one in the morning, I reserve the right to not be able to think!

In that case, if you (Ben) want something which will last you the next few years and is entirely head-mounted, I'd say the Sten is the obvious answer. The size and proven performance seem to back up the reputation and they seem to sell particularly well to people who've seen them being used - which must bear testament to them!

Nice one Ben, I love mine and though I haven't done loads of mines, I find it so far has done the job great. Its tough and gives off nice light.I know you are into your photography and I find mine works great for photos in conjunction with the Fenix.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
