I don't know if this has been mentioned before, if so apologies.

Fifty one aerial photos of Welsh slate quarries can be seen on the Casglu'r Tylsau website.

Actually I have just realised I am sure there are two errors on that page. I had spotted the Diffwys one previously (it looks like oakeley to me). Look at the photo to left of that, Graig Ddu, I don't know where that is! I hadn't spotted that before!

Not sure that I can reconcile the picture with OS 1:25000.....even if it was taken in 1993!

There is no way that is Graig Ddu near Blaenau.

I have has a brief look thru and I could spot 2 mistakes straight away. People will read this website and believe that it is correct and be mislead.

I am not sure the "Graig Ddu" photo is a slate quarry even! Also, does it look like small trial adits and tips to top right of that photo?

I max sized it and it's not easy to tell. The bridge should help I suppose. Would I be correct in saying it's the 1991 photo of Diffwys that is wrong and that the 1993 one is okay?

Yes 1991 pic is ok. I am certain the 1993 is actually Oakeley judging by the inclines and what I am sure is the standard gauge line curving round, adjacent to sports fields, beyond.

That photo has "newish" roads and what appears to be a modern mill, something Diffwys lacks!

I remember having to point out a similar mistake when in Caernarfon Record Office some years ago.

I am curious where the "Graig ddu" photo really is though.

Simon hit it when he observed that it look like a stone quarry.
My immediate guess is around Llangollen...prob.totally wrong.
Note power pylons in picture. Looks like limestone.
Proofing the National Library of Wales, eh?

Yes, that strata reminds me of the hills just north of Llangollen and up one side of Horseshoe pass too, but it is that curved road viaduct that has thrown me totally!
