The Bidston tidal experiment was conducted in Parc Mine and was intended to detect whether the coastline tilted due to tides.

Somewhere on t'interweb is a quite detailed discussion about it, but I can't find it - this isn't helped by Wirral Caving Club's website having moved and my DNS thingy not being able to display the old pages... does anyone have any details?

I work for the Proudman Oceanographic Lab ex Bidston now based in Liverpool.
The experiment would have been done using one of our Absolute Gravimeters which (very) accurately measure the gravity and therefore tiltyness (scientific ehh!)
I will email the guy involved if you like, what do you want to know,
Cheers
Steve

Actually think they did this before the gravimeter work.
Have uploaded a paper from the "Geophysical Journal International" from 1980

For more reasons than one, would like to have a look here sometime if anyone is planning a trip
