I see from the map link of FR Moelwyn to Blaenau Ffestiniog area posted on thw Wrysgan forum that there is another slate mine (or quarry) marked near foot of Conglog incline named Glyn SQ. Does anyone know any more?

Only that the Cwmorthin Tramway was extended to serve the Conclog and Glyn Ffestiniog Quarries in 1874. I haven't seen anything that could be a sepearate quarry unless the 'Open' workings and the underground workings were seperate concerns - I don't think they were connected.

Don't know, maps are never really to accurate with slate mines, some are marked as mines, others levels, and others just quarries.
for e.g. our visits to Tharng Crag quarry, near elterwater only showed a quarry on the map, when in fact it was a mine with 2 3 levels & one shaft, though the middle one was collapsed. 😞

Haven't had a look yet. Would probably only look at the middle level (B). But plan to have a look soon.
Had an email from Chris Cowdrey who has done some recent SRT/ladder explorartion on there..

I helped quite a bit with the recent exploration in Conglog, some of
which
filtered into a book on the subject - 'Conglog Slate Quarry' by Celia
Hancock & M.J.T.Lewis. ISBN 0952297949. 36 pages in total.

The ladder was an aluminium ladder that we took in to give us
access to the upper level.
In fact we spent quite a while fully exploring the mine, linking
the pits on the surface with the underground workings, and making
surveys.

Unfortunately you do need SRT gear to get into the pits, and ladders
to get up from the main level to the level above.

And having done all that, there isn't a lot to see!

There is an impressive abseil of about 40m that can be attempted
into the centre of the roof of the large chamber at the end of
the main adit. You can just see daylight from the floor of the
chamber. The shaft is open on the hillside, it's hard to find and
very dangerous!!

Cheers

Hmmm, add me to the list for looking at this! Waders are a necessity to get into the obvious adit, although an hour with a couple of a shovels and a pickaxe might cure the problem rather better.

I wouldn't mind a look around either. I've done the middle level to death but not the others.

Was hoping to do something the weekend of 31st/1st swmbo tokens providing :flowers:
Do you think it would take much digging?

Since the material is quite damp, not too much. Take a ***** * pickaxe!

Good idea! Ahh the power 🙂
Apart from the loose stuff that LAP mentioned (on other thread) are there any big rocks. I can't remember as I only had a quick visit to the adit once while passing by.

It would be even better if I could delete posts! I'll add to Simion's 'to do' list although I want a few bits doing for my work website at some point!

The adit is basically about 18" deep in water and has been dug out before. An hour or so with a pickaxe and a shovel or two will sort it. It doesn't actually *need* doing, but it would make access a lot dryer!

If I get bored of an evening, I might see if Miles is free and pop up there. Miles! Friday evening or Monday evening are when swmbo is working, in case you're interested!

Like most mines, its partially the tippings. Not too hard, just time consuming. Which reminds me, can the next person to go to Dinorwig, clear out that tunnel to the chamber like thing! 🙂

Thank you Simonrl and the Miles, sterling work with pick and single-handled digging implement yesterday.

The water has dropped by perhaps 8" to 10" but a return trip should sort it out fully - after I've invested in a mattock 😉 - and bring it below cwd: guess who got wet feet? ::)
