Whilst walking near Prussia cove at the weekend, we passed the above mine, I have previously found an adit thats open directly below the coastpath, but also found a gunnis or collapsed stope on the top tip above the public footpath. Does any of this go??
Also spoke to a chap who used to be in Cornwall mine rescue who mentioned 2 adits on the beach which i presume is Kenneggy sand,he said one goes a long way?
Anyone been in any of this.
Thanks in advance.Tony.

Hi Tony,

Some of these adits go quite far, though they are mostly very wet (I do remember one being strictly a wetsuit job, which just resulted in a dead end after a long swim). The adit at the east end of Kenneggy beach goes a long way into a limited amount of workings. It's a very long adit, very muddy and an uncomfortable stoop the whole way. Once you reach the lode, it is possible to explore a small amount of workings, all on the same level. It was all a bit grim, in my opinion, although my friend loves it. I, on the other hand, vowed never, ever to return!

Years ago I came out in a wetsuit covered in yellow and orange crud, it was hanging off my face and helmet. There was two young ladies sunbathing topless right outside, I remember the one taking her sunglasses off to get a better look at me. The sea was inviting but as I entered, the bathers all left.

Similar was up at Grove Rake when I came out with weed all hanging off me and covered in mud, children playing outside all fled in terror. Heb was there and said i looked like the monster from the black lagoon.

Thanks for the reply chaps, it sounds like the wet ochre filled hell hole a lot of people I know love. Perfect for a Saturday trip. On the same walk we also found a hole that was topped with old cattle ring feeders as a fence, this was right next to the coastpath a little east of Cudden point. This looked like a gunnis and is not marked on the older OS maps as a cave or suchlike. Could this be related to the mine near Acton farm, which I guess is Chiverton? perhaps a collapsed adit. As before any info welcomed. thanks T:)

Reminds me of the time I emerged from a very small adit on the beach at what I think was Wheal Lucy smeared generously with human excrement and ran straight into the sea retching violently.

I think at least one families holiday was ruined......:surrender:
