I fancy a trip to nyth y gigfran mine,the incline from glanpwll looks a bit steep.anyone know how to enter from cwmorthin si

Everything I like is either immoral, illegal or fattening!!!

Not only is that incline steep, but also there was another incline up from that point (scarcely visible) that accessed the workings. Those levels were later accessed from Oakeley after the mine was absorbed by them.

It's virtually inaccessible from the Ffestiniog side, has to be reached from Cwm side. Can be accessed from the Oakeley pit by entering the adit for floor 8.

Really not much to see to be honest, barely worth the immense effort required to reach it.

Besides, it's owned by Welsh slate and they don't allow access. They won't take kindly if the see you roaming around up there...

I'd suggest that anyone who wants to wander around the pit at Oakeley might wish to give it some very serious consideration before they do - as the gentleman who keeps an eye on it is very observant, rather short-tempered and has an enthusiastic way of dealing with people who shouldn't be there.
