I have a couple of images - one in colour the other this one - of what I have down as "Wheal Unity shaft". Where I got this info from I have no idea. Anyway, it is close to Botallack, almost at sea level and I can't for the life of me think exactly where is location, or, indeed, what part this shaft plays in other major mines around here. What amazed me at the time was that the shaft was extremely close to the sea, such that in rough weather it would have been possibly taking the content of breaking waves and, also, at the time, the shaft was dry, or at least not flooded to sea level. Perhaps because it was connected to working pumps at Geevor or somewhere. It also had a half decent ladder way down it. Any info gratefully received. It was photographed in 1987.

I've only checked the early maps so far, near De Narrow Zawn.

Ah! that's where I got the name from, thanks! Is is a part of Botallack?
