Lot in the press about things forging ahead at Hemerdon, but they still have to raise the finance. Suggestions of £1 billion investment over 10 years.
On BBC spotlight last night (I'm sure someone will come up with a link) Wolf Minerals were stating that there was local demand to come up with a new name for the mine, perhaps because residents of Hemerdon village didn't want to be associated with it (even though their pub is the Miner's Arms). The company were therefore looking for any suggestions, particularly which might reflect the heritage of the area.

Shouldn't be what the vilagers want... the mine is situated on Hemerdon Ball, so in my opinion should retain "Hemerdon" in its title.

I wonder if Ball is Bal, as in mine?

It's old and it would make sense.

Sounds like a lib dem council conclusion to me.

Without checking Stuey... I'd expect it was something to do with it being a granite outcrop and possibly rounded... only supposition though. Will have a look at my geology books shortly.
Anyway you old so and so how about giving us a call sometime as no-one answers your end... tried twice in the last couple of months.

Ball is a common Devon term for a hill.
