We already did this. Lots of people made a fuss, key people in planning raised the issue. One (the environment lady is no longer employed by them) and everything has fallen on deaf ears. The shafts have been open a good couple of years since they were mysteriously tarpaulined over.

I'd say they are going to plug then and no-one will make a fuss. What are the council going to do, take themselves to court and win/lose?

If it was a 10ft deep pit in your garden, the CAU, the bat officer and environmental reports would be swarming over the place. It seems their projects are exempt from historical and environmental considerations.

As I have previously commented, one of the KEY people in CCC (who is no longer working there) noted that parts of the environmental study were absent.

Again, this has all fallen of deaf ears. It seems no-one is prepared to make a fuss. End of story.

I merely wondered why they have not continued with their rate of vandalism in the name of more industrial units which Cornwall really does not need, unless they are (£3/ft^2)/A

Well if no one will listen, make them listen, go to the papers, the radio, tv, anyone that will listen that can help make a change.

People won't do anything unless they are forced into it. I encounter it day in day out, you have to force people as they are lazy, its easier to cap a shaft to get people off your back then fill out numerous forms etc and actually do some work.

What about the local mp?

The bat people have been contacted, they contacted the police, so have the environment agency, I knew someone who was high up in planning, he had a word, the ecological woman did, every possible angle was followed, including the local MP.

Since it's a Cornwall Council job, Cornwall Council are going to do what they want....basically.

We even sent photos of the bats, including a bat skeleton we found down there to the various people.

Hi Stuey , what about the World mining heritage status thing ???, If they won't let Crofty do anything because of this , then how can the Council do what it wants !!!!

If it had "diversity" in the title, or there were a minority group which could take offense, they would probably have a 500 page method statement about it.

It's basically an old mine site which is a derelict eyesore and should all be turned into industrial units/midas homes for everyone's good.

I think they are a lore unto themselves. I've heard about it from the inside as well as various anecdotes about how they sometimes engage with contractors. (free stuff for them personally to get it) It's a disgrace, but giving people too much power is a bad thing and giving a load of greedy hillbillies too much power is another.

If no one is listening you haven't talked to the right people.

The only advice rather than airing your frustration on here is to get out there and do something about it.

Ipcc, papers etc. Just need to keep on at all these people until such a point that they are so fed up of hearing your voice they have to listen

I've been on the case to everyone repeatedly and for a long time.

It's a very interesting mine and one which we've barely scratched. It would be a great shame to see it plugged, but that's what they are doing. Planning aren't interested in the lack of the environmental report called on by 2 of their staff. The police said "There is not a crime in progress, as the bat habitat limiting tarpaulins had been removed from the cones" (and left around them) I expect the Bat People (x2) and Natural England met with either "we have all the paperwork, trust us, we wouldn't lie" or "everything is fine, don't worry about it".

It does seem odd that they have stopped short of capping the shafts (which they will do at any time).

I doubt anyone on sight has the faintest idea about the planning snags highlighted. I imagine they do have the drawings and will be doing what is necessary in due course.

They already capped Piningers Shaft (which was the one with the really big tarpaulin wrapped cone). From what I can see they have deviated from the plan (the site of New Engine shaft has not been obliterated like it should have been in the drawings.)

Last time something like this happened, Tresavean and Penstruthal got bat castles instead of having the whole site plugged like Wheal Buller. The difference being that this is not public open space, but a private (Lord Falmouth and consortium, as well as CCC) site, so they don't have to tick the usual boxes. After all, who should be on the site looking at any of it?

Is Hallenbeagle within the WHS site?

Most certainly not. Neither is Whiteworks, which was also obliterated.

According to the current WHS site map the WHS boundary seems to come awfully close to Hallenbeagle, there is a chunk on the south side of the railway that seems to have been left out, that chunk seems to be where Hallenbeagle is unless I have got the location wrong?

Just passing on a message from Stuey, it seems that the shafts have again been covered with tarpaulins to stop bat access, time for the bat conservationists to get in on the case :guns:

You should disguise the email address. I am sure they are not going to welcome the spam that might result from having their email posted here.

Well what's to do....My current theories are:

1) He's been gagged.

2) His PC has blown up.

3) He hasn't paid his internet bill.

4) He's got a case of the o'f*ckits.

5) He's looking for Elvis.

6) He's found Elvis.

7) Elvis didn't want to play so he's found Jesus instead.

8) Jesus got crucified so there's no deal left in it for our man.

9) He's won the lottery and has bought Bangkok.

10) He's won the lottery and can afford an agent to post his briefings and pictures.

11) I can't print this one without getting arrested.
