Me, the Colonel and Merrdinemrys are hoping to get up to Nent for day next week. Does anybody know whether the A686 is open over the Hartside pass at the moment?

Rule of thumb with Hartside, if you can see where the road is then its passable.
If you cannot see the road, wrap up warm πŸ™‚

Mr.RL is - of course - driving a vehicle with 4WD, so he'll have no problems ;)

In Simon's case I'm sure that is so, however, judging by some of the antics of the Chelsea Tractor Drivers around here in recent days 4WD is only half of the solution

I fear Mr Vanoord's response was slightly tongue in cheek. I have a history with vehicles πŸ˜‰

Not at all: it's nearly Christmas, so I was being nice and reassuring :flowers:

Haven't had our order from the Colonel yet, but we'll either be at Nent on Tues or Weds, afraid will still be in Wales Monday 😞

We'll be easily spottable. Read Vanoord's comments and conclude we'll either be in the Discovery on its back with all its wheels in the air, or stuck in a snowdrift...

Well if you see a black Skoda trapped in a ditch or in the car park from the day before, be a good chap and drag it out onto the road.

Tip No.1 for Hartside. Never overtake the snowblower. Its scary when it then starts to catch you up.

Drive faster......

One icy night over Hartside I chased a 1.4 Escort all the way from Melmerby to Alston. Couldn't catch it.
Wouldn't have been so bad but I was riding a Triumph 1200 Daytona.

Would a 4WD have been handy here. πŸ™‚

Open I gather.
They even managed to open Killhope a couple of days ago (single lane) which is by all accounts quite spectacular.
