Good lord so it is!

We had a discussion about whether it was an airbox or a toilet box IIRC - it's that badly broken now.
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

We concluded that if it was a khazi, then it would be suitable for two very close friends, or two extremely desperate strangers! 😮 :surrender:

Yes indeed. How nice to see what it really looked like. Mr Bird scores again!

So if it was an airbox what was its purpose?

Maybe, was the airbox a pump or a divertor, junction box or something? Just curious, as I've never seen one.

This is my guess, and if I'm talking ball cocks, then sorry.

My fancy is that it does the same kind of job as an air tank in a compressed air system, compensates for loss in the pipes. Of course forced ventilation is very low pressure, more volume of air. So no need for steel pressure containers, wooden box reinforced do fine.
Alterntively, it could act as a manifold.
Possibly both jobs?

I am sure there is an expert out there somewhere.

It looks a bit like a simpler version of the well-known device at Rampgill Shaft. Having never been entirely sure about how it works I can't really expand upon that however! :-[

It may not shed any more light on the airbox but at least we have a winner in the "Comedy Abseil Take-off Stance" competition....!
