Taking a closer look at the 1879 map I realise that the works stretched further along the valley than I had previously assumed. You can see that they start to the south of field 389 from which there is an access road running south to the main Camborne-Hayle road. This can be seen on GE (not very well in this copy) although access is no longer viable unless you abseil down from the bypass.
The obvious route to take (with permission naturally) is to turn right at the barn complex (the stack can be seen on the left), across the field and then follow the original works into the valley. Obviously from the maps you don't realise how steep and narrow the valley is.

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.
