hi - just to report , there is an error on the adit now map for this mine - scout mine is actually at

SD 83461 22895

flashearth

that is the closest reliable bearing I could get [ adjacent to ` enterance one ` ] – a long way from scout road 😛

the mine / quarry is accessed via :

cliff bank hamlet - a very narrow road leading to private houses

we were warned however that the new residents [ the retirement home has now been demolished ] were not a friendly bunch and disliked explorers

so we parked on the main road and made our aapproach on foot

however – the navigation failure did turn up an unmarked mine , which was a nice bonus

while we attempted to locate scout mine on scout road as directed by the adit now map location – a conversation with a resident lead us to a second mine working

located at :

SD 83525 23536

flashearth

Just one adit was located – next to a waterfall – but due to the waters now running back into the mine – its partially flooded – and heavily silted

There was some debris and graffiti around the enterance – but the walls visible further in were pristine – the watter and mud obviously keeping undesirables out

Just 10m inside ` wellie breach ` was imminent – so we abandoned the attempt – intending to return more sutibly dressed

Also – the silts liberated quite a lot of gass when disturbed – which may be a problem if the mud is extensive

I think that my drager will have to be added to the kit list too

Any one have any info on this working ?

PS - scout road is an unmade track with huge ruts and exposed manhole covers – its narrow and steep – and has very limited parking – best avoided really though the residents are friendly and gave us some good advice

Anyone wishing to visit this unnamed working would be advised to approach it from the other end of the path [ school lane ] a much wider mettaled road that has some parking provision

Thanks Andy

Is this Scout or Scout Moor? I searched 'scout' in the database and it came up with these two hits, both in the SD sheet.

There's only provision for 6 character grid references so it would need to be 834228. Is that correct?

Visited this un-named mine last weekend and found that the water had gone, leaving thick black silt. It is not very big, comprising of 2 parallel workings connected at each end. Some evidence that it has been used as a drinking den. Will post some pics, if I can know where to put them.
We found it safest to park on the main road and walk up, turning left off the lane just past a house for sale. Followed the sort of path, ignoring the long drop on one side!

This un-named mine is not connected to the Scout system or anything else. It looks like a short lived mining attempt. The grid ref is given in the thread. There was nobody about to ask what it was called.

Any idea who used to mine this mine or who owned it? Or who owns it now?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
