Only joined today after finding a photo of (note the correct name) Mine Train Quarry. Listed as being worked on a casual basis. How this assumption was arrived at is a puzzle. I own the quarry and have, and still do, work it, with my son, on a full time basis, and have done so since 1969.
Anyone interested can visit our website, www.minetrainquarry.co.uk. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer via email or Forum.
The quarry is a rabbit warren of tunnels and shafts from the old ore workings and I have copies of surveys of these should anyone be interested.
Please note this is a working quarry and permission for visits are only granted on presentation of the appropriate insurance etc. Cheers Bob

I would be interested in knowing this as well. It is rather unusual, but a very nice name.

Checked out Old Industries of Dean by David Bick and Bixlade valley by Graham Field, but although the Mine Train Quarry is mentioned, there's no reference to why the name was chosen.
Mine Train sits partway up the Bixslade Valley, the sides of which are rich in old levels and quarries.
There was a tramroad running right down from Bixslade Quarries to the stone works at Cannop, which would also have been used to carry the coal from the mines in the valley. Hence the name Mine Train was probably alluding to this tramroad which ran right ouside the quarry entrance.
Where there's a mine or a hole in the ground.
That's where I'm heading for that's where I'm bound
So follow me down Cousin Jack
