I vaguely remember NCK before the North Frame was fitted, it had a sort of cantilever set up on the back which I assume was for a capstan or something, the other thing it had was an Engine house that was unique - it was built from mass concrete, I believe it was built in about 4 weeks.
The funny thing is NCK looked bizarre without the North Section as it was out of proportion, being so tall and having nowhere near as much depth as it soes now.
The big problem with NCK is its is just so unique, I can't think of a headframe anywhere that looks vaguely like it, which is whyeverybody sees it as iconic.
I see they are advertising for "Artists" to design public artworks that represent Cornish Icons for the Heartlands project, how about if there is no need for NCK headframe operationally, dismantle it and reerect it in the middle of heartlands, where it will still nearly be on its original site and it could serve a twin purpose as an SRT practice Rig!!!!
